THE BEAT
GENERATION
The Beat Generation formed in
1990 is a rock-n-roll band in the truest sense of the phrase.
From Memphis, the birth place of rock-n-roll The Beat Generation has
done it their way and refused to change from its original direction no
mater what the current fad may be. To borrow a phrase, "They've
been going in and out of style but they're guaranteed to raise a
smile." "We love that music and it means the world to us" says leader
Rick Nethery.
They've just released their
third album to great critical acclaim, and on the strength of their
songwriting were invited to Liverpool, England to represent Memphis
for Liverpool's "International Beatles Week," they played the The
Cavern Club and two other shows at the Matthew Street Festival.
"Playing the Cavern was the greatest, the crowd was so enthusiastic
and we just played our own songs," says Nethery. "A great
rock-n-roll environment. The two shows at the festival were just as
fantastic we played for 15,000 people who had never heard of our songs
or us, but they sang along and danced like mad. That's 15,000 new fans
of Memphis rock-n-roll. I will never forget that trip."
"Every time we hit the stage
it's heart and soul to us, we try to play it like this could be the
last show and people all over the world appreciate that kind of
dedication."
The Beat Generation's latest
recordings "Yer Blues" and "Across the Universe" are included on
"Fried Glass Onions" an album of Beatles songs done with a Memphis
flavor released in January on the Insides Sounds label.
